Condensed Novels and Other Papers

Condensed Novels and Other Papers, first collection of writings by Bret Harte, published in 1867. It included 15 travesties of the works of such popular writers as Cooper, Dickens, Dumas, and Hugo, as well as three legends of Spanish California in the manner of Washington Irving, and A Night at Wingdam, a gold rush story. A poorer collection was issued under the same title as a second series in 1902.
