Clark, Walter Van Tilburg (1909–71), born in Maine, reared in Nevada, was a professor of English and the author of
The Ox‐Bow Incident (1940), a psychological novel about a lynching in Nevada's cattle country;
The City of Trembling Leaves (1945; in England
Tim Hazard, 1951), about a Reno boy whose ambition is to be a composer; and
The Track of the Cat (1949), a symbolic tale of hunting a panther in the Sierra.
The Watchful Gods (1950) collects stories.
