Boorstin, Daniel J.

Boorstin, Daniel J. (1914–2004), Atlanta‐born educator and author, after an A.B. from Harvard, Rhodes scholarship, and law degree from Yale had a distinguished academic career teaching American history, mainly at the University of Chicago, before becoming Director, National Museum of History and Technology, Smithsonian Institution, and then Librarian of Congress (1975–87). His books include: The Americans: The Colonial Experience (1958); The Americans: The National Experience (1965); The Americans: The Democratic Experience (1973, Pulitzer Prize); The Discoverers (1983), the first part of a world history; The Creators, the second part, which appeared in 1992; and Hidden History (1989), 24 essays.
