Apple‐Tree Table, The, and Other Sketches

Apple‐Tree Table, The, and Other Sketches, ten prose pieces by Melville, collected in 1922. Originally published in Harper's Magazine and Putnam's (1850–56), the sketches range from the critical Hawthorne and His Mosses to the title story, an allegory of the appearance of two beautiful living insects in the dead wood of an ancient piece of furniture.
