vector graphic A graphic which is stored as a series of mathematical instructions which are then used to draw the picture. Drawing a vector graphic is more complicated than drawing a BITMAPPED GRAPHIC. However, vector graphics have one big advantage over bitmapped graphics: they can be scaled without any loss of resolution. Vector graphic formats are not directly supported on BROWSERS as opposed to GIF and JPEG graphics which are both bitmapped; however, they are supported indirectly via PLUG-INS.
