password A series of characters typed into a computer in order to gain access to the network. It is important not to use any words such as your name for a password, as an intruder would be able to guess it. There is a wide variety of software available for password processing, including software for managing a database of passwords, software enabling someone to retrieve a forgotten password if they know roughly what it is, and software which provides a password which is easy to memorize but difficult to guess.
