object request broker

object request broker A key component of the COMMON OBJECT REQUEST BROKER ARCHITECTURE more commonly known as CORBA. This is a DISTRIBUTED OBJECT technology which enables objects resident on a number of physically remote computers to interact with each other via messages. An object request broker is a program which sits in the middle of these objects directing messages to their destination along with any replies from objects. Object request brokers also implement a NAME SERVICE so that distributed objects can be identified; they also implement security services. Usually abbreviated to ORB.
