object-oriented technology
object-oriented technology A general term which describes tools, processes, and programming languages concerned with the development of systems that consist of chunks of data known as objects. This technology is not new: it can be traced to a programming language SIMULA which was invented in Norway in the late 1960s. However, since 1990 there has been a rapid growth in the use of the technology, fired by the promise of software reuse that it offers and the increasing availability of commercial
OBJECT-ORIENTED PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES such as
JAVA and
C++. Many commentators have predicted that much of the future development of Internet applications will be carried out using this technology.
