integrity checker

integrity checker A form of VIRUS DETECTION SOFTWARE. It keeps data similar to a MESSAGE DIGEST for each file on a computer. Periodically it checks that files have not been interfered with by a VIRUS by recomputing the message digest and comparing it with its old value. If the values differ then there is a very good chance that a virus has infected the file. These programs are usually executed frequently.
