index spamming

index spamming The submission of WEB PAGES to a SEARCH ENGINE which contain a large amount of descriptive information or the swamping of a search engine with a large number of pages. Both of these are intended to ensure that the site submitted is placed near the top of the list of retrieved sites when a user of the search engine sends a query. It is similar to SPAMMING, but the recipient is a search engine rather than an EMAIL account. The companies which provide search engines frown on this activity and will remove sites which carry out index spamming from their databases. The term SPAMDEX is also used to describe this activity.
