draft standard A document which is originated by the INTERNET ENGINEERING TASK FORCE and which represents the penultimate stage in the process of developing an Internet standard. The draft standard source document is the PROPOSED STANDARD. The proposed standard will have been tested against two implementations and will have been modified to form the draft standard. The draft standard will need to be extant for at least four months for many more implementations of the standard to be created. Any problems with these implementations will give rise to modifications. The document which is formed by modifying the draft standard is the final Internet standard and is known as the OFFICIAL STANDARD.
