dedicated port

dedicated port A TCP-IP port that is associated with some dedicated function. Ports numbered below 255 are used as dedicated ports, for example port 110 is dedicated to processing applications which use the POP3 protocol for EMAIL and port 23 is reserved for TELNET. Dedicated ports are more commonly known as WELL-KNOWN PORTS.
