browser caching The process whereby WEB PAGES which have been viewed are stored on some local storage medium such as a hard disk. Often users of a BROWSER return to these pages after visiting other pages. By storing them in an area on the computer running the browser they are retrieved much more quickly than if they were transferred anew over the Internet. Browsers normally allow the user to configure the amount of storage used for visited pages. The local storage used to contain the pages is known as the CACHE.
