banner advert

banner advert Adverts which have become prevalent on the WORLD WIDE WEB. The term ‘banner’ comes from the fact that they straddle a WEB PAGE. Such adverts almost invariably contain hot spots which, when clicked, take the user to the site whose services or products are being advertised. Banner adverts are placed on a WEB SITE for a number of reasons: the advertiser has paid the owner of the site; the owner and the advertiser have come to an agreement about payment every time the advert is clicked; or a product or service has been purchased; or because the site is hosted by an INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER who is not charging the site owner and, in lieu of this, places adverts on the site.
