World Wide Wanderer
World Wide Wanderer One of the first
BOTS used on the
WORLD WIDE WEB. It was originally developed to track the Web's growth and was designed by Mathew Gray. At first it counted only
WEB SERVERS, but was quickly redesigned to capture
URLS. Its database of
HYPERLINKS was called the Wandex and was the first Web database. The Wanderer created a furore because early versions caused network degradation. Its appearance coincided with the first arguments about whether such bots were a good thing for the Internet. It has now passed into history.
