Request for Comment A document, often known as an RFC, which contains details of a proposed INTERNET STANDARD or the modification of an existing standard. Requests for Comment are produced by the INTERNET ENGINEERING TASK FORCE (IETF). An RFC represents a draft for a standard; this is discussed on the Internet and in formal meetings of the working group tasked by the IETF to develop it. Eventually the Request For Comment is transformed into a document known as an INTERNET DRAFT.
