Privacy Enhanced Mail A standard for securing EMAIL which can employ either PUBLIC KEY ENCRYPTION or SYMMETRIC KEY ENCRYPTION. Its use is decreasing as it is being superseded by the more comprehensive SECURE MULTIMEDIA INTERNET MAIL EXTENSIONS technology.
