Portable Network Graphic

Portable Network Graphic A relatively new graphic format which was developed when problems emerged with the copyright of the GRAPHICS INTERCHANGE FORMAT (GIF). It is a BITMAPPED GRAPHIC format which has been defined by the WORLD WIDE WEB CONSORTIUM. It is currently seen as a possible patent-free replacement for the currently popular GIF format. It is usually abbreviated to PNG.
