MIME type
MIME type The type of a document which is described by the
MULTIPURPOSE INTERNET MAIL EXTENSIONS standard. Some examples of MIME types are text/plain, which is plain text that is unformatted; text/html, which is
HTML formatted text; and image/jpeg, which is an image that conforms to the
JOINT PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPERTS GROUP format. When a
WEB PAGE is sent from a
SERVER to a client, part of the header contains details of the MIME type so that the browser can properly interpret the file.
