Internet worm

Internet worm A VIRUS which was developed by a young student Robert Morris in 1988. It was the first real large-scale attack on the Internet and resulted in a large proportion of the computers on the Internet having to be closed down in order to eliminate the virus from their memories. Morris used a well-known bug in the UNIX operating system to spread the worm from one computer on the Internet to other computers.
