File Transfer Protocol This is a STATEFUL PROTOCOL, more often referred to as FTP, which forms part of TCP-IP and which is used for the transfer of data held in FILES stored in an FTP SERVER. This transfer is often known as ANONYMOUS FTP since the FTP client that carries out the transfer does not usually have to identify itself using an account number or password. There are a variety of utilities available which allow a user to interact with a FTP server and DOWNLOAD files.
