FTP software

FTP software In the early days of the Internet, if a user wanted to download an FTP file from another computer then it was achieved using a simple COMMAND LANGUAGE, often the one associated with the UNIX operating system. Currently there are two means of downloading FTP files. The first is by clicking an FTP link on a BROWSER. When this happens the user is taken through a dialogue which eventually results in the software being stored on his or her computer. The second way of downloading FTP files is by using a specialized tool. Such tools are WINDOWS-based and allow the user to examine the structure of the FTP directories that are being accessed. In effect FTP software tools enable the user to treat an FTP site as if it is a folder on his or her computer. A good FTP tool provides many functions including Windows-based access, a quick connection to computers holding FTP files, bookmarks to individual FTP sites and FTP files, the facility to have files passed to other applications, and the facility to interrupt and resume the copying of FTP files.
