X-OPEN

X-OPEN A joint initiative by some of the world's leading computer manufacturers to endorse and integrate evolving standards in order to encourage applications portability, and to give a seal of approval to conforming products. Common standards have been defined for UNIX (incorporated in the Single Unix Specification), languages (C, Cobol, Fortran, Pascal), and data management (ISAM, SQL). Coverage of standards by X-OPEN is being extended to include networking, X Windows, and the POSIX user interface.
