Satyasiddhi Śāstra

Satyasiddhi Śāstra. The ‘Establishment of Truth’, being an Abhidharma-style work by Harivarman presenting the theories of the Sautrāntika school, according to some scholars. The work contains a number of Mahāyāna-like teachings such as the doctrine of emptiness (śūnyatā) which suggests it is either proto-Mahāyāna or was itself influenced by early Mahāyāna thought, although the concept of emptiness (Pāli, suññatā) is an Abhidharma notion not a Mahāyāna one. On the basis of a mistaken belief that it was actually a fully-fledged Mahāyāna work, it was uniquely preserved and studied in east Asia in its Chinese translation. Recent scholars have suggested that the title should correctly be restored as the Tattvasiddhi Śāstra rather than Satyasiddhi Śāstra.
