Pāli Text Society

Pāli Text Society. Society founded in England 1881 by Thomas W. Rhys Davids in order to promote the study of Pāli texts. The early activities of the Society centred around making the books of the Tripiṭaka available to scholars, as interest in Buddhism grew throughout the West in the second half of the 19th century. The society publishes Pāli texts in roman characters, translations in English, and works including dictionaries, books for students of Pāli, as well as the Journal of the Pāli Text Society.
