Kadampa (Tib., bka'-gdams-pa). A philosophical system founded by Atiśa in the 11th century ce, based on oral teachings (gdams-pa) derived from the transmitted teachings (bka') of the Buddha. Though it became defunct as an independent school by medieval times, the Kadampa approach was preserved by other schools and especially formed the basis of the later Geluk school.
