Divya-avadāna

Divya-avadāna. One of the earliest Buddhist literary compositions in the avadāna style, being a collection of moral stories relating to how good and evil deeds receive their appropriate retribution in the course of time. The text is divided into 38 sections, varying in literary quality, which were arranged in their present form some time between 200 and 350 ce. The work is in Sanskrit and most probably belongs to the Sarvāstivāda school of Buddhism. It includes many of the stories found in the Avadāna-śataka.
