Abhidharma-kośa

Abhidharma-kośa ‘Treasury of Abhidharma’, a key Abhidharma text in verse written by Vasubandhu and summarizing Sarvāstivādin tenets in eight chapters with a total of about 600 verses. The verses are then commented on in the accompanying bhāṣya or ‘exposition’ (see Abhidharma-kośa-bhāṣya). The subjects covered include all the main topics of Abhidharma philosophy, and a refutation of the views of the rival school of the Vaibhāṣikas is given at many points in the commentary. As well as the original Sanskrit, translations exist in Tibetan, Chinese, and Mongolian, and also in English and French.
