Muslim b. al-Ḥajjāj al-Qushayri

Muslim b. al-Ḥajjāj al-Qushayri (817–75 (AH c.202–61)). Muslim scholar. His collection of ḥadīth is, with al-Bukhārī's Ṣaḥīḥ, the most highly esteemed amongst Muslim holy books. He was born at Nishāpūr in Persia, and after completing his formal education, travelled widely to collect the traditions of the Prophet Muḥammad. His Ṣaḥīḥ (Sound) collection was composed out of 300,000 traditions. It differs from other ḥadīth collections in two ways: the books are not subdivided into chapters, and he pays special attention to the isnād for the sake of accuracy.
