saddle. 1. Cap of a door-
cill or the bottom part of a door-frame.
2. Thin timber board, or threshold, sloping slightly on each side, fixed on the floor between the
jambs.
3. Short length of structural timber fixed to the tops of two
cruck blades, forming the flattened top to a ∧ shape, and providing a support for the
ridge-piece.
4. Any ∧-shaped form suggesting a saddle in
section, usually a splayed capping for a
ridge or a
cope-stone.
