Talman, John

Talman, John (1677–1726). English architect and artist. The son of William Talman, he spent much of his life travelling to record buildings. On one of his expeditions (1709) to Italy he was accompanied by William Kent, and made a large collection of drawings, while developing his contacts with connoisseurs and virtuosi. He seems to have supplied images of Italian buildings to several personages, including Dean Aldrich, and so may have played some part in the second English Palladian Revival (see Palladianism).
