Mayan architecture. A
Meso-American people, the Maya built (
c.C2 BC–
c. AD 900) very steep
battered platforms on which monumental structures were created. The remains of many such temples have
corbelled vaults inside (
c. C4), but most openings have
lintels or triangular
heads. Mayan and
Aztec architecture influenced European
Art Deco in the 1920s and 1930s.
