'Mr. Lake Forest Day' remembered for his passion and commitment

A long-time Lake Forest resident credited with saving Lake Forest Day died just two months shy of the community's 100th anniversary of the summertime festival.

Herb Faulks, dubbed "Mr. Lake Forest Day" by the Lake Forest City Council in 1997, passed away May 28 of cancer. He was 87.

"I really don't think there would be a Lake Forest Day today if it wasn't for Herb Faulks," said Vinnie Dolan of the Lake Forest American Legion McKinlock Post. "He's the one who year in and year out just made sure it happened."

Dolan was recruited by Mr. Faulks 16 years ago to help out with the Lake Forest Day ...
