Flora's art both sunny and sinister

The Lake County Discovery Museum's exhibit, "The Mischievous Art of Jim Flora," features paintings, fine art prints, woodcut relief prints, record covers and music ephemera created by this wildly imaginative individual who left behind a trove of unseen works.

Jim Flora, who died in 1998 at 84, was considered a pioneer of record album cover illustration. He crafted a surreal style that was considered both playful and somewhat sinister with his bizarre figures dominating jazz albums for Columbia and RCA Victor during the 1940s and 1950s.
