Hearing aids go high-tech

The hearing aid business has been going through some pretty drastic
changes recently with the advent of digital technology, and
audiologist Stephen Gannaway at Advanced Hearing Systems in Joliet
has it covered.
Hearing aids used to be analog models, he said, which use tiny
microphones and amplifiers to make sounds louder. The problem was,
though, that all sounds were amplified, even background noise. There
would be feedback, too, around some electronics. Wearers describe it
as a whistling noise.
