Ambitious 'Carmen' is impressive production

During one of the better-known scenes in Georges Bizet's classic opera "Carmen," the titular character (played by Lisa LaFleur) sings, "Love is gypsy child ... he has never known the law." The line, which is sung beautifully, with hints of lust and deep sadness, resonates throughout the DuPage Opera Theatre's production at the MacAninch Arts Center.

For their part, the company deserves plenty of respect. Not only have they arranged an impressive cast from throughout the U.S., but - at least from what I saw last weekend and at a previous production - have gotten people around here revved about ...
