Mosquitoes take bite out of summer

The blood-suckers are on their way.

The above-average rainfall of nearly 3 inches that the northwest suburbs recently received means that residents can expect the first wave of mosquitoes to hit their homes this week.

Mosquitoes, cold-blooded insects that have survived the dinosaur's extinction, come in two main varieties. Some people might suggest - and then hope - that those categories are annoying and dead, but scientifically their classification depends on where the mosquitoes are born.
