Ex-janitors can seek new library jobs

Oak Park Library trustees have revised the severance agreement they gave four part-time custodians, to allow them to apply for and hold jobs at the library if new positions become available.

The previous severance agreement said the custodians, fired Aug. 29 as the Library Board hired a private cleaning service for the new 104,000-square-foot main library, could not seek re-employment at the library.

The unanimous voice vote came at the Oct. 21 meeting, after members of the audience asked trustees to reinstate the custodians.
