A victory had almost become a necessity for the Fenwick softball team.

The Friars (5-8, 1-4) had been outscored 51-5 in their last four games against a pair of top 20-ranked opponents.

The bleeding finally stopped on Monday afternoon as Fenwick defeated Carmel 12-10 in eight innings in an East Suburban Catholic Conference game. The Friars pounded out 16 hits as Eleanor Comiskey (2 runs scored, 2 RBIs) had five and Katherine Becker (4 RBIs, 2 runs scored) added three. Comiskey picked up her fifth pitching victory of the season, allowing 10 hits and eight earned runs in a complete game ...
