Yellow journalism's roots
|
Winnetka was the scene of a brutal double murder 120 years ago this month, and author James McGrath Morris says the crime played a role in the development of journalism.
Morris is the author of "The Rose Man of Sing Sing: A True Tale of Life, Murder and Redemption in the Age of Yellow Journalism," a biography of the once-legendary newspaper editor Charles Chapin.
Morris, who will speak Sunday in Winnetka, said Chapin's first big break as a reporter was covering the 1884 Winnetka murders for the Chicago Tribune. The victims were Village President James L. Willson and his wife, Clarissa.
