For some 30 years, the names of Dundee Township Park District facilities commemorated 130 Americans who died for their country. One, as we mentioned last week, was Keith Andres, who had a Carpentersville park named for him after he became the first local man killed in Vietnam. But the other 129 were all honored in the same location. When the submarine USS Thresher sank in 1963, with all 129 sailors aboard, the park district was about to open a new swimming pool behind Meadowdale Shopping Center. So it got the name Thresher Pool.
