A faint odor of smoke awoke Erich Squire, 29, in time to escape what Fire Chief Eric Kurtz said could have been "a potentially tragic fire."
Squire, his wife Kim, a cat, a dog and a bird escaped without harm from the early morning fire that ravaged their garage, breezeway and one side of their home on Turrett Road here Monday.
"We're just glad everyone got out, including the animals," said Squire on Monday evening as he was packing up belongings at the residence.
