Does Northbrook need a river walk?

If the perception of many of the young students participating in a mock village government last week reflects that of the village at large, the West Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River isn't worth the trouble.

"As far as gathering people in downtown Northbrook, the river is not a very good place to gather," said Jackie Bowler, a Maple Junior High student who was village manager of information services for the day. "It's disgusting. It's better to gather in the Village Green."
