Cozumel wakes Mexico's Yucatan island attracts crowds

From a sleepy, off-the-beaten-path island some four decades ago, Cozumel has become a popular tourist destination, famous for its beaches, diving and shopping. In a 1961 documentary, the late oceanographer Jacques Cousteau pronounced Cozumel's turquoise water the best in the world for diving and underwater filming. In addition to its popular beaches and resorts, Cozumel is rich in history, lush jungles, Mayan culture and colorful cultural traditions.
