PUC professor wins blast furnace grant

A Purdue University Calumet engineering professor will head a research team investigating ways to extend the life of blast furnaces at Ispat Inland Inc. and U.S. Steel's Gary Works plants. PUC professor Chenn Zhou received a $1.3 million two-year grant from the Indiana 21st Century Fund, established by the legislature in 1999 to support high technology research projects.

Zhou introduced a team of PUC professors and scientists from steel mills and from the Argonne National Laboratory on Tuesday who will develop software ...
