ohn V. Lindsay, the glamorous two-term mayor of New York who helped lead a new generation into politics during the tumultuous years of urban unrest and the Vietnam War, has died at 79. Lindsay died of complications of pneumonia and Parkinson's disease Tuesday at a hospital in Hilton Head Island, S.C., the resort he moved to last year. The once-vibrant figure had also suffered two heart attacks and two strokes in recent years.
