Jim Boing (from left), John Strawcutter, Tom Rehberg, Curt Lavender and Jamey Newberry swap stories and share jokes as they relax and nurse their beers on a Wednesday afternoon in late May at Fransen's Bittersweet Tap, hidden down a narrow gravel driveway off the east side of Illinois 25, just across from Bolz Road. The local watering hole was the dream of the late Arve Fransen, who longed to open a small neighborhood bar close to his home.
