Stolen chalices have long history in Fox Valley

SANDWICH -- The Rev. Jack Heraty's gold chalice spent 22 years safely in the company of juvenile offenders and three years at his church in town before it was taken on Ash Wednesday.
Heraty received the 104-year-old chalice while he served as a prison chaplain at the Illinois Youth Center-St. Charles.
"I never worried about it out there," said Heraty, who also worked and lived at Mooseheart during those 22 years.
"And I never worried about it in Sandwich -- until Wednesday."
