Capone welcomed by police in Joliet

On Friday, Dec. 16, 1927, "Scarface Al" Capone paid a visit to Joliet and was welcomed by the Joliet Police Shotgun Squad. On his way to Chicago after being asked to leave Los Angeles, Capone was riding the Santa Fe train when he learned cops were waiting for him at home.

He made arrangements to get off the train in Joliet.

Two cars full of hoods arrived here before the train.

But they were seen entering the Andan Restaurant near the train station by Deputy Leo Lamb. He called Joliet Capt. William McCanna.

McCanna's shotgun squad arrested the five gangsters waiting for their boss.
