Kane inches closer to Fox River bridge

For Kane County, there is "a light at the end of the tunnel," said Jeff Dailey, director of transportation for the county. In this case, the tunnel actually is a bridge over the Fox River near South Elgin, and Dailey admits it is only one tunnel among several.

Still, Kane officials are excited about the prospect that later this year the Federal Highway Administration is expected to sign a record of decision that will clear the way for the Stearns-McDonald roads bridge.

The final sign-off could come as early as July 25 but most likely will be in mid-August, Dailey told members of the Kane ...
